Emergency Pet Shelter Program
Life can take unexpected turns, and sometimes pet owners find themselves in situations where they temporarily cannot care for their beloved companions.
Not all shelter pets are unwanted
Loss of a relative, illness, and domestic violence are among the most common situations that lead pet owners to seek temporary refuge for their furry friends. Strikingly, while this can happen to anyone, the majority of those seeking help have been women escaping abusive relationships. These individuals often face difficulties finding affordable pet-friendly housing or covering the costs of a hotel.
Victims of Domestic Violence and Their Pets
The link between animal abuse and domestic violence is a global concern. It's well-documented that pet abuse often precedes or occurs concurrently with human abuse in domestic violence situations. Furthermore, pets often become a significant barrier preventing victims from leaving their abusive environments.
Safe Temporary Fostering
At UANA, we've witnessed these challenging circumstances firsthand as volunteers at a local dog shelter. We believe that no one should have to choose between their safety and the well-being of their furry companions.
UANA Emergency Pet Shelter Program aims to provide safe, temporary fostering for the pets of women facing difficult life situations. Our goal is to offer a lifeline during challenging times, ensuring that both pets and their owners can be reunited once stability is restored.
