Supporting Local Rescuers
UANA collaborates with both government-managed municipal pounds and private rescue centers to support local rescuers in meeting essential needs such as food, medical care, staffing, and operational expenses. We also organize volunteer efforts to ensure that shelter pets receive more walks, care, and love—because in a shelter, there can never be too many helping hands. We find immense joy in working with dogs, caring for them, and making their lives better. Witnessing their transformation from fearful, untrusting animals into affectionate, playful companions is truly heartwarming. And when they finally find their forever homes, we believe it’s one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have.

Municipal Pounds
In Cyprus, municipal pounds are legally required to care for stray animals for 14 days. After this period, they have the right to euthanize them, though many choose not to. Due to limited budgets, they can only provide veterinary care in emergency cases. We step in to cover veterinary expenses for the animals under our patronage, including mandatory check-ups, sterilization, and treatment for critical illnesses.
While municipal pounds lack the resources for these procedures, their staff deeply appreciates our support.
Private Rescue Centers
Private shelters operate independently and, while dedicated to providing the best possible care, many face severe financial hardships. Run by passionate volunteers and animal welfare advocates, these shelters often struggle with the rising costs of food, vaccinations, and medical treatments. With daily operations consuming their time and energy, many shelters accumulate significant veterinary debt. By helping cover these expenses, we ease a major burden, allowing them to focus on their core mission—rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals.
